Well, I guess I’m a little behind on the blogging, but let me fill you in! First thing, just in case you all wanted to follow on the FB, we started a page there as well, www.Facebook.com/Room4Two.
Well, I guess I should pick up where I left off. So there we were, headed to Estes Park, the trip was amusing and not too long, heading out of Spearfish via Spearfish Canyon helped to ease the transition from scenic drive to covering miles as we journeyed off to our next destination. We stopped at the Colorado Visitors center near Ft. Collins and picked up a map and a few other goodies from the nice ladies who reminded me of the Church Ladies on SNL years ago. From Ft. Collins we ventured west to Estes Park via a quite curvy canyon road that led us there, that is where mini goats showed up, we stopped and snapped a few pics and headed on our way.
Arriving in Estes Park, we located a hotel, caught the end of a jazz band concert in an amphitheater we stumbled upon, managed to find some pretty decent BBQ at Smokin’ Daves, and stopped for ice cream (Misty just HAD to have dessert???), and got back to hotel just in time to get a bit of sleep to ready ourselves for the short trip through Rocky Mountain National Park and the trip to Moab.
We awoke in the morning to be greeted with breakfast at IEgg? if I remember correctly, and headed towards the park. At this point the Miata was cooperating completely and we drove through the park via Trail Ridge Road which you would’ve thought might have been some test of the car as the road meanders around the park while gaining around 4000’ of elevation. The views were spectacular and my only regret was that we didn’t allot more time for this park, it really seemed like it had much more to offer than we even came close to experiencing. We managed to view an elk here who also managed to capture the attention of others so well that they stopped in the center of the road just before entering an altercation with the car following behind them.
Leaving the park we drove through Silverthorne to I70 and headed west. We were doing great right up until we were climbing around the Palisades / Grand Junction area where the Miata started to show that it was, in fact, still taxing it’s already marginal cooling system. We were forced to turn off the A/C for the rest of the jaunt down I70 and our trip south to Moab, arriving a bit sweaty and not so fresh in Moab later that evening.
