Well, been back for two days total now and finally…

Well, been back for two days total now and finally settling back in to the groove.  I guess we left off right before we left from Salt Lake City.  We drove from SLC to visit Misty’s cousin in Colorado Springs.  The drive from SLC to Co. Springs was actually quite fun.  We ended up driving down I70 some and kicked off in Breckenridge and headed down HW9 to Colorado Springs.  I will say if you get the chance to drive some of the back roads of Colorado, they’re well worth the little extra time they cost you.  We got to see the ski resorts in the summer (I think it’s mandatory I go back for some DH Mountain biking at some point) and all the little towns that are along the highway.  Many portable housing units dot the sides of the road at the moment near ranches.  I assume they’re temporary housing for cowboys managing the cattle, but I could be wrong.  We finally arrived in Colorado Spring later that evening and had dinner with Erin and Jason.  In the morning we headed off to Pikes Peak which was quite a bit of fun even though it was at a slow pace.  I’ve been here once before and rode down on a mountain bike, but I saw no tours this time, just the back of a truck for most of the drive up the mountain.  We did take a few more pics and had a bit more fun on the way down the mountain.  We then drove through Garden of the Gods closer to Colorado Springs and made it back to the house in time to get past REI and run to dinner.  Our dinner in Manitou Springs was interesting.  We dined at a place that had quite the odd menu, but to my surprise, my entree was quite delicious.  I had ordered the salmon enchiladas and although they had a much different texture than what you might expect from an enchilada, they were quite tasty.

The next morning we headed out to make the drive home.  We actually decided we would drive through the panhandle of Oklahoma after making it to the SE corner of Colorado.  We managed to actually end up on two lane quite a bit of the way back, but did get to see some of the Grasslands in the panhandle.  I can’t say they were nearly as much fun as the mountains, but they did tend to fare better than the scenery along I40 in the Texas panhandle.  We arrived back late Sunday night and managed to get the car unloaded and put away, but that was about it.  I can’t wait until our next adventure, but it’ll be nice to return to a bit of normalcy for a few weeks…..  I’ll post a few pics from our little outing in the next few days.
