First, let me apologize. I seemed to have used NB as the abbreviation for Nebraska instead of NE, sorry, just something I caught while I was looking back over my post. Now that that’s out of the way on to the next post.
Well, we can now say we’ve been to Yellowstone. I do like the park, but probably not quite as much as Yosemite. I can appreciate all the geothermal features and breathtaking views, but the waterfalls in Yellowstone just can’t compare. I have seen more wildlife on this trip, but the only bear we managed to spot was in Jackson, WY. We have definitely explored camping in colder areas and I think I can say it was moderately successful. No one cried or died, but I can’t say I was able to convince anyone that camping was an equal or greater alternative to the Four Seasons. I think if we has some better backing systems in place that things may have gone smoother. Also, the extra precautions you have to take in bear country prove to be a tad bit more time consuming than camping at our more local red dirt campsites.
Also, a suggestion to anyone going to Yellowstone, do not discount things that do not explode into the air. I actually found the springs, pools, and terraces more interesting than the geysers, if nothing else they are much more colorful!
After Yellowstone we traveled through Grand Teton NP and stopped for the night in Jackson, WY. It is a pretty neat little spot with quite a few art galleries, shops, and some pretty meat character. We did have to, by suggestion (Thanks!), stop into the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. I’d say it’s worth stopping in to at least have a beer or two. The bar stools are saddles and the local brewery beer is available and tasty! We departed Jackson en route to Breckenridge this morning and had a pretty uneven trip drive through S WY and N CO. We’re planned to hit the mountain biking trails in the morning so I’ll see if I can’t coerce anyone else to go with me to explore the side of the mountain.
