Friday, June 15th-I decided to go with Matt and do…

Friday, June 15th-I decided to go with Matt and do “real” mountain biking. Less than a year ago we both bought brand new mountain bikes (29 ers) to do some mountain biking activities in Oklahoma. We always thought at some point we would bring our bikes to either new mexico or colorado for some true mountain biking, we just didn’t plan on it being this quick. As we approached Keystone, Colorado, today, I started to get nervous about this process. We get our lift tickets and take a seat in the ski lift with our bikes dangling from each side. As the lift takes off, I start doing pregnancy breathing because not only am I getting nervous I am also terrified of heights. We get to the top of the mountain and are let off. We are only going to do the green trails (easiest) because in no way shape or form should I even be attempting this activity, so early in my biking career. And we are off….winding through trees, embracing rocks and tree roots, all going at speeds of 20-30 mph. Needless to say this trail took me two hours and I had three large wrecks during the process. My total count of injuries includes 3 blood blisters on my hands, both wrists scratched to pieces by the trees, 4 exceptionally large bruises (with cuts also), 2 scraped up knees and a terribly sore butt from the bike seat. I call these my battle wounds -Keystone 1, Misty 0. But, on a positive note I am coming home in one piece, I think that is a success. After a long day of biking we made our way to Denver for the night. We went to the largest REI store I had ever been to and I was able to pick up some additional biking gear. We spent the evening at Stoney’s bar and grill refueling after our adventures. As we begin our journey home, Matt and I are already thinking about our next adventure.
