We had planned on hiking a variety of different trails while in Rocky Mountain National Park, but it ended up being an overcast, somewhat rainy kind of day. We did take the scenic drive through the park and were able to see many of the great spots it has to offer. As we exited out of the park, we began a six hour journey to Moab, Utah.
This is where the Miata decides to start acting out again as it started to get hot. At this point, I am sweltering and my patience for this kind of stuff goes out the window real quick. The car is overheating, I am overheating and once again we have not a damn bit of cell phone service to call AAA even if we had to! The majority of this trip has been done without cell service, and when I say that, I mean it. The phone will read No Service. Maybe when I send in our payment this month to AT&T, I will just write on the payment slip “No Payment-No Damn Service from Oklahoma to the Western Half of the United States.” I’m sure they"ll understand, don’t you? Just awesome, get to the desert (unprepared of course) with an overheating car and no one or way to call.
My patience tank is almost on E (empty, not ecstatic for all you strengths-based people) and since Utah fails to welcome anyone to their state with a decent sign, welcome center, or even a gas station until you have burned in their inferno for at least 25 miles, let’s just say Utah and I are off to a bad start. We locate our hotel, which seems to be “in town.” Can one even call it that? It should just be called “Moab, a small landing strip of land in the desert that is only occupied by a few living, breathing humans who may or may not spontaneously combust at any given time.” Needless to say, we settled in for the night and got ready for what would be day one of exploring the interesting parks this place has to offer.
Here is a picture of a nice friend we got to see on the way out of the Rocky Mountain park. While we were photographing this cute fellow during his afternoon snack, he must have caused an accident, as people were gawking at him and ran into one another in their cars. I’m sure it was just another walk in the park for this guy!
