Occupied

Well, we managed to make it through our second day of our little journey across the western half of the US. Started off the day at our hotel where they had the sweet self serve Belgium waffle makers, I was quite excited about this and managed to make mine quite perfect with almost no effort at all, I wonder why the home appliance makers can’t manage to make an idiot proof system yet? Anyway, after our morning cuisine, we headed back up to the plaza in Santa Fe where Misty had talked about attending Mass at St. Francis, unfortunately, we were unable to locate a parking spot near the square in time to not interrupt their service so we came back to the cathedral later. I will say that the people of Santa Fe are quite fierce parkers, they are able to spot spaces from miles away, almost telepathically, and maneuver their art cars into parallel spots with what can only be a non meter maid fearing sharpness. I can only imagine that it must be their disdain for their license plates, I’d be quite hacked as well if someone instructed me to bolt on a turquoise or yellow and red square of sheet metal to the back of my vehicle as well. You would figure with all the artists around here that someone would have come up with a bit more ornamental plate, but unfortunately, this had not been the case. Anyway, once we were able to locate a spot we made our way over to the Georgia O'Keefe museum where they had a great installation of art and photography and points of when the two were starting to come together. In the time I have been alive, photography as art had never been an issue, but they did have a small video detailing how photography became accepted as more than running a machine. We then made our way to St. Francis which was quite a spectacle of stained glass and cathedral ceilings. I did find one thing quite hilarious, I guess I never thought about the issue of walking in on someone in the middle of their confession. Would this act be met with the same awkwardness that opening a bathroom door on someone using the restroom? I just thought it was awful funny to have little back lit Plexiglas crosses above each stall to notify fellow parishioners of the status of the confession box. After we awed the architecture of the structure, we passed the holy water cooler and went on our way to lunch. The Burrito Co managed to talk us both into their lunch special consisting of two fish taco and usual fair of rice and beans. I was a bit excited to see Misty try this delectable treat as she has, in the past, shyed away from anything that at one time has lived in the water. I was pleasantly surprised when she was not only able to finish a taco, but do so with a smile on her face. We made a quick stop after that at a few places and made our way back to the hotel before making our ascent to the Cross de Martyrs where we watched the sunset, took a few photos and afterward had dinner at a local pizza shop Misty found on the internet.

After a bit of sleep we shall keep heading west where we are bound to see trees that are not wood and a large trench.
